Why We Like Working Here!

Heather Jolicoeur
Community Coordinator

I really believe in GSSSI's mission to help older adults remain living at home independently for as long as possible.  I started working at GSSSI in 1994 as a Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman and Nutrition Caseworker. The working environment was one of support and care, with an emphasis to improve one's abilities with further training and education.  After five years of service and the birth of my first child, I left the job to raise my family, which now includes three children and our loyal dog, Rayna.  Ten years later, in 2009, I returned to GSSSI on what was to have been a temporary basis to fill in for an ailing co-worker.  I was not surprised to see so many familiar faces still working here.  There were many new faces as well, as the number of programs and services offered to our elderly population had exploded, and the agency's office space had grown considerably larger.  My current position as Community Coordinator is new to the agency. The continued support and help of my supervisor and colleagues makes every day spent at work feel like home.  I continue to take advantage of training and educational opportunities in an effort to improve and grow as a GSSSI employee.

Lorraine Daudelin
Administrative Assistant

At Greater Springfield Senior Services, there are many opportunities for our seniors to get the care they need to continue their life at home.  I started off with the agency in 2006 as an Administrative Assistant in the Client Services Department and learned about the wide variety of services they provide which includes:  Personal Care, Homemaking, Chores, Laundry, Meals, etc.  After about a year, I was given an opportunity to transfer to the Personal Care Management/Adult Foster Care Programs. It was fun working with the Skills Trainers and two Registered Nurses whose job is to visit the elderly and assess their needs.  I then moved on to my current adventure: Administrative Assistant working with nine nurses in our Clinical Nursing Department.  My favorite part of the job is that we all work together as a team to help each other to provide our seniors with the best care possible.  It is a very nice feeling to be able to come to work, knowing that there are people who care and have such compassion, especially as I head toward becoming a senior someday.  I've been with the agency now for seven years and it has been a very enjoyable journey, and I look forward to many more years to come.

Sol Z. Fontanez
Social Worker/Case Manager AFC Program

Although I have been working at GSSSI since November 2012, I have to say it's been an amazing experience. This is a great agency to work for. I'm a Social Worker/Case Manager for the Adult Family Care Program and I feel very fortunate being here. It's not just "another job."  It's a joy and delight for me. My supervisor and co-workers are great and we work well together. GSSSI has so many positive things and a family oriented way of accomplishing the task at hand. Since I started my employment here I have learned of so many programs and services that we provide that many people might not be aware of. From the meals and nutrition program to health and wellness, money management and so much more. I am so delighted to be a part of the GSSSI family and I plan to grow and flourish here for many years to come.
