Openings for Volunteer Group Leaders
If you are interested in a flexible volunteer commitment, want to learn more
and share information about healthy living, and want to have fun, consider being a
group leader for one of the programs described below.
Volunteers must have good communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, dependability and a willingness to lead small groups of older adults. Volunteers will participate in free, comprehensive

A Matter of Balance Fall Prevention
Many experience concerns about falling that can restrict their activity. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among adults. The interactive program includes eight two-hour classes presented by trained
group leaders using a detailed training manual and two instructional videos. Program components include:
- Group discussions
- Mutual problem solving
- Exercises to improve strength, coordination and balance
Healthy Eating for Successful Living
This six-week program was specifically designed for those who want to learn more about nutrition and how small changes in eating habits can promote better health.
Group leaders help to create a supportive environment where participants focus on goal setting, problem solving, self assessment and management of dietary patterns. Participants learn to:
- Decipher food labels
- Plan healthy and appealing menus
- Make better informed choices at the grocery store
My Life, My Health: Chronic Disease Self-Management
This six week course is for those who live
with the daily challenges of one or more chronic conditions. A variety of topics
are covered, including:
- Dealing with difficult emotions
- Communication skills
- Making informed treatment decisions
- Muscle relaxation and guided
imagery
- Pain and fatigue management
- Healthy eating
- Medication usage
- Physical activity and exercise
